Another Letterboxing Adventure!

What is letterboxing? It's part treasure hunt, part adventure, part art project. to find out more.

At the beginning:

Here's a little bit about Edson Fitcher, the wildlife artist and biologist who the park is named after:
Memories of Edson Fitcher

And after tracking down the clues, here's G3 and Zorro sitting down to stamp their logbooks, and leave their stamps in the letterbox's log:

And a tired puppy resting in Bannarama's backpack as we make our way back to the car:

This was a *really* fun letterbox to find. I worked with Zorro to create his very own new signature stamp with fun foam, and it turned out really nice. (If you want to see his stamp, you'll just have to find one of the letterboxes we've stamped into, but I will be putting up a mini tutorial on making a stamp from a kids drawing later on this week.)

Blue Angels!

We went to the Blue Angels air show while we were in Twin:

SO impressive - a really entertaining show, despite it being hot and crowded.

Here's a pic of most of our crew from the weekend:

And yes, that's my little Bannarama standing next to me - almost as tall as me!

One more: The kids in front of a Black Hawk helicopter, with the two military men who were very gracious about posing with the kids for a picture, and answering the same questions they had probably heard twelve million times that day.

They told us that my brother who is in the army has probably ridden in one of these more than once.

Booth Setup

I've tweaked and adjusted (quite a bit, actually!) from my last booth set up:

A view from the other side:

This came about because we were traveling to a show in Grace, Idaho, and we had to bring all ten (ten!) of the 1/2 Basset Hound Puppies we were bottle feeding to supplement their poor mama's milk, and the mama. So, not a whole lotta room for tables and my usual displays of vintage suitcases. I liked the suitcases, but I really like the clean look of the wire racks, and it gives us more room in the booth when we're at an event where we're also doing facepainting:

Feathery Mask- facepainting style!

A new facepainting design! A sort of feathery looking "mask."

Got my kiddo to sit for me while I was experimenting - I have some of the only kids in the world who don't *want* their faces painted! (Probably because I like to practice on them.)

Thank you, American Falls!!

We had a booth for "American Falls Day" yesterday.

We had a fabulous day, with lots of cute kids stopping by our booth to get their faces painted! It was a great event, with a great turnout - so Thank You American Falls!

We had a blast, and hope to see you next year. :)

What do you do with a bunch of kids, a too-hot-to-play-outside afternoon, and a visit to the grandfolks?

Get out the colored pencils, crayons, and markers, and send 2.5 by 3.5 cards (Artist Trading Card size) around the table to create monster cards!

Here's a sampling:

We all contributed to these - I think these goofy little monster cards are quite awesome!

And if you want to see something fun I did with one of our images, go to:
My Brand-Spankin' New DancinJules Zazzle Shop! (I can hardly wait to order some of the postage stamps and send a letter to the Grandfolks with one! :))

Comfort Food...

So, last weekend, I was feeling cruddy and miserable with a summer cold. (Why do they always make you feel so much more miserable in the summer?) I typed "Comfort Food" into the search engine at and I came up with these comforting finds:

A handwritten letter complete with Lemon Bar recipe from Flying housewife

Cooking FUNdamentals cookbook (this looks to be a great future purchase for my daughter, who has been learning to cook and loves it!) fromCooking FUNdamentals

These sweet pancake earrings (complete with syrup!) from Dulcebella

And this scrumptious looking Oatmeal Milk and Honey soap from Bath Artisan Soaps

Wending our way slowly down the Snake River Canyon on our way to visit Shoshone Falls, what should appear as we rounded the corner but this lovely gentleman and a few of his brothers:

Gorgeous, isn't he? Apparently he's from a nearby elk farm. Look at those lovely antlers in velvet! I think I want to make some antler head bands now...

I'm sure I couldn't compete...

I'm sure I couldn't compete with this magnificent specimen:

But I'm thinking I'd like to try my hand at creating some antler headbands/headpieces. What do you think?

The littlest cousin...

Zorro and Miss Pickle (our littlest cousin) zooming around with a toy car at a birthday party.

Ahhh...I love where I live!

Granted, this picture was taken down at Dierke's Lake, about two hours from where I currently live, but this is my hometown:

There are times when I really, really love living in Idaho.

Because when there's a lake...

It's darn near impossible to resist the urge to dip your toes in the water!

My feet and the kids feet - the cold water of Dierke's Lake felt rather nice on the tootsies!

And a pic I snapped of Bannanarama, looking thoughtful as the sun set:

And speaking of sunsets - the absolutely gorgeous one we were treated to at the end of the day:

Zazzle Goodness!

So, I went over to After someone mentioned on the etsy forums that they now have shoes available for you to customize and create!

After looking around at all the cool products available to put images on, I signed up and created a postage stamp using our Octo-Girl monster card! How very cool. I'm thinking it will be great fun to order some, and send a letter to grandma with our new, customized postage stamp upon it!

Here's my Zazzle gallery (not much as of yet, only the stamp, but there will be more in the coming weeks)

Up a tree...

Up a tree with a Carolina cousin...

We visited the grandfolks last weekend, while my sister and her munchkins were there. (They live in North Carolina now, so we don't get to see them that often.) A game of hide and seek led us to discovering that Zorro and his cousin are apparently skilled little tree-climbing monkeys! All of us were assisting the younger cousin in finding the two boys in a game of hide and seek, when we found them perched high in this tree.

A mish-mash, monster mash!

So, take a hot afternon when visiting grandma, add two kids, some art card blanks, a little of the "exquisite corpse" concept, a bit of round-robining, and you get:

Monster Cards! We went around the table, each of us adding something, until someone declared the card done. This was one of my favorites.

Cute Puppies!

Simply a cute puppy picture!

Dirty Fingers, Lovely Butterfly

So the fingers are dirty*, but the butterfly is lovely. This was taken at the huge anniversary/birthday party for the kid's great grandparents. It was at a park, complete with a fish pond, so of course the kids and their cousins wasted absolutely no time in getting dirty. Bannanarama, my little naturalist, found this butterfly flapping its wings and taking a rest inside the screen house.

It was released shortly after these pictures were taken, of course.

*My philosophy has always been that being a dirty, dusty, and muddy kid at the end of the day was a sure sign of a day well spent. :)

Hockey with Cousins...

So, with energetic visiting cousins right next door, we thought it would be fun for them to come to hockey practice with us. This is the kids in varying stages of being able to stand on skates. Our kids skate at H&R Inline Hockey. We love this place - the people who run it are so friendly, and the whole atmosphere is low pressure and fun.

This is "Coach Glenn" a.k.a. Uncle Glenn giving some pointers to the youngest cuz. He was having a hard time skating, but you've never seen such a determined kid. Glenn's enjoying coaching the kids.

And what better way to finish off a successful practice, than with ICE CREAM!! (We love this little Ice Cream shop - it's Farr Better Ice Cream, and oh joy of joys! They have huckleberry ice cream! Reasonably priced huckleberry ice cream, even!)
